Onward, wee Chickies!!

Handy friends are basically as good as cash on a farm. A handy friend who helps build a copp out of a big pallet and scrap materials from a dump pile leftover when we moved to our new farm? Priceless!

This is our first year breeding chickens - or letting chickens breed as it will be - and we’re pretty excited. We have a Splash Orpington rooster and a beautiful variety of Orpington hens for him:

a lemon cuckoo, a lavender, a white, a mauve, a chocolate, a splash, a blue cuckoo and a lavender cuckoo.

Maybe someday I’ll go the full mile and get an incubator and have more control over the hatching process but for now we’ve set up our group in their own coop away from our layer flock and hope to let them brood and hatch some colorful chicks!
