Olly was an unassuming doe kid, but I like to learn and I love to keep sisters and watch them develop. I thought I knew what was what and expected her littermate sister Walla to be the star when they matured. I was super wrong. And I’m grateful for the lesson, it’s shaped how I assess and pick kids. Olly has grown into a beautiful, long, deep dairy doe with a socked on, buttery soft, productive udder. She quickly became my favorite in this age group.
Watching Olly mature has been immensely rewarding. She gained body capacity into her third freshening and by her fourth year is everything I ever thought I wanted to see in a dairy doe in my herd. She’s deep bodied and wide enough to stash a set of quads (and maybe half a bale of hay, too). She never stops eating, but every calorie goes into her milk and these are aspects of a doe I personally strive for. Does who easily go off feed, are sensitive, are hard keepers, or who pack on a lot of excess fleshing make my life complicated. Eat the food, turn it into milk. Right? Olly is a pro. And she makes ALL THE MILK. She is elegant, with pliable soft skin and amazing udder texture. Her udder is socked on, with a fore that seems to go forever. She has very large, easy to express orifices and is a quiet, gentle, cooperative doe making her just a dream to milk. We’ve enjoyed some first place placings with Olly as an awkward 2 year old, and we are really looking forward to getting her mature self into a ring in the near future. Olly and her dam Gosa are the does I would legit attempt to stash in an apartment if my life took a sudden change and I could no longer be a goat farmer.
